Center Life

A typical day at Carville Job Corps is full of activities to help our students prepare for the real world. Students get up early and spend the majority of their day receiving academic and hands-on career technical training.

After class, students study or relaxing with friends before dinner in the cafeteria. After dinner, students may do chores in their dorms or spend their downtime studying. Students are in bed by 10 PM in order to rest for the next day's tasks.

Recreation

Carville Job Corps boasts one of the best recreation programs in the nation. Students find our recreational activities to be a fun and exciting way to meet new friends, socialize, and just relax and unwind at the end of the day. We offer traditional sports and games such as flag football, basketball, volleyball and softball.

We conduct regular monthly committee meetings with our students to get their feedback about our recreational programs. Of course, students are always welcome to make their suggestions for new or existing activities to any member of our recreation staff.

Student Government

The Student Government Association (SGA) is instrumental in establishing positive norms which contribute to the center's overall positive normative culture. In addition to our SGA, we have eight student leadership committees; they are as follows:

  • Academic Committee
  • Recreation Committee
  • Diversity Committee
  • Food Service Committee
  • Wellness Committee
  • Safety & Security Committee
  • Student/Cadet Committee
  • Residential Committee

Safety

Job Corps is committed to offering all students a safe and secure environment. That's why we have a Zero Tolerance Policy for violence, alcohol, and drugs. Any student who breaks this policy will be dismissed immediately from Job Corps.
