After graduating from Jacobs Creek Job Corps Center, Justin worked on numerous projects with the International Union of Operating Engineers, including bridges, airports and power plants. On the job, you will ...

  • Use and handle power tools, scaffolding, ladders and other construction equipment 
  • Lay pipes and tie rods, as well as drive and operate a forklift   
  • Understand how to read construction site prints and drawings and environmental awareness 
  • Clean equipment, report malfunctioning equipment to supervisors and control traffic patterns

The credentials you will earn ...

In the Advanced Highway Construction, Pre-Apprenticeship training program, you will earn industry-recognized credentials from the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Forklift certifications, CPR and First Aid certifications, and a state-issued credential/license. 

Students should also earn a state-issued learner’s permit and driver’s license upon completion of the program. 

What you’ll need to start training ...

  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent (can be earned at all Job Corps centers) 
  • Completion of a Job Corps basic training program 
  • Meet academic (math and reading) requirements 
  • Positive attendance and progress record 
  • At least 17 years old 
  • Written recommendation from Job Corps center personnel 
  • Health clearance at current center
